Paperbark Maple
Acer griseum

The Paperbark Maple is a native of China. It was introduced into this country about 1901. The bark of the tree is cinnamon to reddish-brown, paper-thin, and it peels trunk and branches in narrow strips. The leaves are brilliant orange-red in autumn, especially in the East. This tree is relatively free of diseases and insect pests. It grows well in well-drained soils that are either acid or alkaline. Landscapers plant the Paperbark Maple as an ornamental.
